Sometimes I catch myself in the woe-is-me state, thinking the world is out to get me, but I know, as I have always known, that I am responsible for my experience. There is no hidden force working against me and there is no secret organization plotting to intercept my joy. In short, I own the experiences that come my way, like them or not. This drivers-seat mentality removes me from victim status and keeps me on my toes, identifying the changes that I can make to shift toward the life that I most desire. When you start feeling beaten down, make sure you stand up straight, accept responsibility for your life, and move toward resolving your state of mind, which is completely setting the stage.

    The victim mentality is definitely a bad way to look at life. I have never thought of it as minding your own business per se, but it is definitely taking responsibility for your own actions.

    I am employed at a restaurant and there are some days that I feel like voluntarily going to work on my free time, just so I can gain more experience and learn new skills. I don’t expect nor want financial compensation for this. The people there including the supervisors and managers are always willing to teach me.
